I am trying to kill these critters in my home, right now. So I thought I would share. The recipe for death of fleas, not the fleas themselves.

Ingredients
  • 1 spray bottle
  • salt
  • water
  • ~
  • So you fill the spray bottle with salt water and spray down the floor with the salt water that has these little demons in the carpet, leave the room, and close the door. You should do this several times a day. This takes about a month to be totally effective. You may want to put a towel under the door to help keep the fleas from just running into the hallway. Or spray in front of the door well too. Or both spray and towel. Its a natural way to kill them. And, I have a friend who swears by it. He hates using anything that will hurt our environment.

  • Way Number 2
  • A large flattish bowl, those clear plastic things that go under plants to keep the water from making a big mess works well
  • Warm water
  • Salt
  • Desk Lamp
  • ~
  • You take the bowl, mix up salt water in it. Not to heavy, remember they are attracted to us and we are not heavy salt, but not to light either. Experiment.
  • You want this to be deep enough that they drown in it. And drowning a flea is not easy!!
  • Set it on the floor of the room that you want to un-infest.
  • Plug in the lamp, set it beside the bowl, making sure that the light bulb is just above the water to keep it warm.
  • Make sure the lamp is turned on.
  • Leave setting on the floor as long as needed. The fleas just jump into the salt water. Again this could take awhile to do the full job. Change out the water when too many of the little critters are in it. I think my friend changes it at least once a day.

  • Yet another friend offered this suggestion:
  • The same thing with the lamp and a low bowl of water.
  • But he adds a touch of dawn soap to the water. He said that the fleas can swim out of the salt water but the dawn catches them and they can not get out.
  • ~
  • He also had another interesting suggestion:
  • He said to add about 6 to 8 drops of apple cider to you pets 8 ounces of water. Make sure it is the only water they drink.
  • After about 6 weeks their skin is more acidic and fleas do not like that so they will not be on them, ie no biting our babies!!!

  • Buy Food Grade diatomaceous earth ..look it up! It kills Spiders, Fleas, Roaches, Mites and is not harmful to children or pets when eaten...GREATTTT STUFF

Directions
  1. The problem for me is that I have 3 cats and this is not working as well as I would like. Both of these take time and patience. My friend has great luck with this. Of course there is just him and his one cat in his house, no kids running through rooms and tipping stuff over.

Dawn soap makes a great flea bath for the pets too. You've never believe how many fleas were on your pet when you are done!!

Again, you have TWELVE gawkers. STOP your accusations! I do not lowball.

I have heard about this. It's been 20 years plus years sence I've heard about this.

Here are a couple of other suggestions for getting a flea problem under control. I had a dog that was very allergic to any flea product, so went the natural way. Even used two of these on myself as I was getting bitten all the time by the blood suckers!!

If you have pets, add garlic tablets to their food. Takes a couple of weeks to be effective, but it does repel them. You can also add garlic to your diet to help keep them from biting you.

For your own protection, Skin so Soft from Avon works wonders and doesn't have the bad side effects from things like Off. It is great for your skin and you can get it at most Flea Markets or online.

Sprinkle your home with boric acid, more formally known as BORAX. You can get it in the laundry section at Walmart. It will not harm pets or children. Let it sit for at least 24 hours. After letting it sit, vacuum the carpet and furniture to get the eggs and dead fleas out of the out. Then sprinkle a small amount over the carpets again and leave on the carpets. Walking on it only helps push it into the carpet fibers and it works like a dream! I have even used the Borax on my dog like you would a flea powder and she never had issues with her skin or allergies.
