How to make it

  • Melt butter and place in the bottom of a oblong baking dsih ( 9 x 13 ) that has sides
  • Place the shredded dough evenly over the butter and mix with hands to have the dough evenly coated in the butter
  • Add the nuts and sprinkle into the dough
  • Bake 350F about 30 minutes or golden
  • Remove to rack to cool
  • Boil the sugar in the water until sugar is dissolved
  • Add the juice and rind of a lemon
  • Simmer about 1/2 hour at a gentle bubble or until its gets reduced and syrupy
  • Pour sauce over the warm kaitafi and let soak in about 5 to 6 hours before serving
  • Cut into pieces
  • Serve with strong coffee
