How to make it

  • Cut beef into matchstick strips cutting along the grain. Peel and grate ginger then squeeze out juice. Mix four marinade ingredients. Add to beef and marinate 30 minutes. Cut carrots, celery and pepper into thin strips. Mince garlic. For ginger use the leftover minced ginger from the preparation of ginger juice. Mix sauce ingredients and set aside.
  • Beat egg white and add water then add flour and cornstarch. Mix batter thoroughly and drop into marinated meat. Heat wok. When heated add 5 cups oil. When oil is ready add about 1/4 of the meat batter mixture. Deep fry beef until golden brown. Remove and set aside. Let oil come back to original temperature and add more meat. When meat is cooked clean the wok. Heat and add 1 tablespoon oil. When oil is ready add vegetables and begin stir frying. Pour in the sauce and let come to a boil. Add the deep fried beef then toss quickly and remove. Sprinkle with sesame oil and serve hot.

    Feb 12/16 Family loved the taste of the recipe and yes it is great. I do hate giving negative reviews but this needs to be said. But I found that the ingredient list did not really match up that well with the instructions. Also when picking up the hot red chili pepper take in mind the size you get. If you pick up the small ones yes you will need 2 or 3 however if you pick up a large size like I did (which was the only size available) you will only need 1. I even took the seeds out and it was plenty hot enough. Oh DH asked our 2 DS's when they were down what they thought of the beef they said that they loved it. This selfdom happens for sure. Yes I will make it again for sure.

    THis sounds fabulous. I have never seen ginger juice anywhere so I went looking and found this:

    I wonder if putting small pieces in my garlic press would squeeze the juice out. I'll try that.
