Smothered Cubed Beef Recipe
This dish is simple and full of flavor. Great with mashed potatoes. I like recipes that use things I already have.

Ingredients
  • 1.5 - 2 lb. cubed beef steaks
  • 1 med. onion,chopped
  • 1 - 3 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 2 pkg. Brown Gravy mix
  • .5 - .75 c red wine (I like Merlot)
  • 2 - 4 c water
  • Salt and pepper
  • Olive oil

Directions
  1. Saute onions in a bit of olive oil in a heavy iron skillet 'til just before browned.
  2. Add garlic stirring until aromatic (I don't like to scorch the garlic).
  3. Remove and set aside, in same skillet add salted and peppered beef in a bit more olive oil, brown over med. heat.
  4. Remove and put in 1 layer in baking dish.
  5. Put about an inch of water in skillet, scrape fond from the pan and add the onions and garlic.
  6. Stir and simmer over med/high heat 'til most of the water is gone.
  7. Meanwhile, mix wine and cold water (enough to make 2 c) with gravy mix.
  8. Add gravy mix to onions in hot skillet and stir until thickened.
  9. Pour mixture over beef in baking dish and heat in oven 'til bubbly.

I made this for my family last night. Just pulled it out of my hat. And freaked their taste buds. I usually cook like that. That's why I don't have a bunch of recipes. It really tasted professional without a bunch of work!
