Ingredients

How to make it

  • Wash, scrub, peel, and quarter turnips.
  • Arrange pieces in a single layer in a heavy skillet.
  • Pour in enough water to halfway cover the turnip pieces.
  • Add butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil, lower the heat to medium, and cover.
  • Boil for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to make sure the turnip cooks evenly.
  • Remove cover and cook, stirring occasionally, until all the water has evaporated, 5-10 minutes.
  • Raise the heat to medium-high. Cook the turnips in the skillet, turning occasionally, until coated and golden-brown, about 5 minutes. Add 2-3 tablespoons of water to deglaze the pan, and toss to coat the turnips with the glaze.
  • Garnish with parsley, if desired, and serve.
