Glazed Turnips
From unswissmiss 16 years agoIngredients
- 2 lbs. small or medium turnips shopping list
- 2 Tbsp. butter shopping list
- 1 Tbsp. sugar shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. salt shopping list
- 2 Tbsp. minced fresh parsley (optional) shopping list
How to make it
- Wash, scrub, peel, and quarter turnips.
- Arrange pieces in a single layer in a heavy skillet.
- Pour in enough water to halfway cover the turnip pieces.
- Add butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil, lower the heat to medium, and cover.
- Boil for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to make sure the turnip cooks evenly.
- Remove cover and cook, stirring occasionally, until all the water has evaporated, 5-10 minutes.
- Raise the heat to medium-high. Cook the turnips in the skillet, turning occasionally, until coated and golden-brown, about 5 minutes. Add 2-3 tablespoons of water to deglaze the pan, and toss to coat the turnips with the glaze.
- Garnish with parsley, if desired, and serve.
