How to make it

  • Combine sugar, cornstarch, salt and spices.
  • Blend in egg yolks.
  • Add sour cream, raisins, and lemon juice.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens.
  • Cool, then stir in walnuts.
  • Pour into pie shell.
  • Beat egg whites on high speed, until peaks form.
  • Top pie with meringue and bake in 350 degree oven for about 15 minutes or until meringue is slightly browned.

    Here's one of my grandmothers specials. She didn't do meringue - whipped cream on top! Yes, this would be a different treat for Thanksgiving. Thanks Janice for the inspiration.

    My mother's favorite pie is rasin and you just don't find them in stores. This is a little different than I have done for her before (sour cream). I'm saving it for her birthday.
