- Ingredients shopping list
- 2 cups fine semolina (wheat semolina is best) shopping list
- 1 tablespoon baking powder. shopping list
- 1/2 cup dry coconut shopping list
- 1/2 cup of butter/or margarine shopping list
- 4tbsp of canola oil shopping list
- 3 tablespoon orange blossom water or rose water or 1 teaspoon pure vanilla shopping list
- 1 cup 2% plain yogurt shopping list
- 1/4 cup white or brown sugar shopping list
- For lite sugar syrup shopping list
- 1/2 cup white or brown sugar shopping list
- 1/2 cup of water shopping list
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice. shopping list
- 1 tablespoon orange blossom shopping list
- 1 small cinnamon stick(optional) shopping list
- 1tsp of margarine to grease the baking tray. shopping list
- 1/2 cup whole or chopped nuts for garnish(I used already grilled almonds and macadamia nuts) shopping list
How to make it
- Method
- In a large bowl,mix the semolina, baking powder, sugar.
- Add butter, oil, yogurt and blossom water, mix well (with hands, no machine please!) until smooth and well incorporated.
- Add dry coconut at the very end.
- ps: the dough should be a little solid but very moist. if not moist enough, add a little bit of milk.
- Grease the baking dish little bit of margarine
- Pour your basbousa dough and spread it evenly .Garnish it with nuts insert them partially in to the mixture.
- Set the tray aside for 30mn.
- Poke the basbousa with a fork a little everywhere and pour syrup. let stand for 15mn, serve!
- Bake
- Preheat oven to 350F.place the dish in the middle rack of the oven and bake for 35-40 minutes
- (after 20m through baking, decrease temperature to 250F for the remaining 15mn. so not to get the top too dark.
- The result should be golden brown.
