Apple Filo Turnover

- 8 apples, peeled, cored and chopped shopping list
- Note: If desired, 2-1/2 cups canned apples (drained) may be substituted.) shopping list
- 1 Tbsp. cornstarch shopping list
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar shopping list
- 1/4 cup raisins, plumped by soaking in hot water shopping list
- 1-1/2 tsps. cinnamon shopping list
- 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped (optional) shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. allspice shopping list
- 1/2 cup butter, melted shopping list
- 1 cup confectioners' sugar shopping list
- 1 lb. filo sheets shopping list
How to make it
- Defrost frozen filo at room temperature, 2 to 4 hours.
- Mix filling in a bowl tossing ingredients gently with a spoon.
- Set aside.
- Lay 5 sheets of filo pastry flat, one on top of the other, with a little melted butter brushed between the sheets.
- Spread 1 cup of filling along one end.
- Roll filo over the apple filling so you will have a long filled tube.
- Fold side edges over 1/2" to prevent filling from falling out.
- Continue rolling.
- Place in a buttered baking pan or on a cookie sheet.
- Brush tops generously with melted butter.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
- Sift powdered sugar over tops and sides as soon as it is removed from the oven and while still hot.
- When cool, cut into 2" pieces and serve.
