Ingredients
  • 3 T fat
  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 2- 3 slices leftover bread, cut into cubes
  • 1 3/4 C beef broth
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Marjoram
  • Thyme
  • Caraway seed
  • 1 T Butter

Directions
  1. Brown the onion in the fat until golden brown, then add thyme and marjoram.
  2. Stir in the bread cubes, add broth and bring to a boil.
  3. After about 10 minutes, add salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Serve with a small slice of bread in the hot soup.

We used to have this soup with rye bead cubes, but I prefer white bread cubes seasoned and made crisp in the oven.


I'm curious how this would serve 4 with only 3/4c of broth. Not trying to pick nits, I just think there may be a typo here.


This is very good soup. The amount of broth (for trackwidow) is 1 and 3/4 cups.
