How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F or 175 C.
  • Cream butter, add sugar and vanilla.
  • Add flour, baking powder, salt and champagne.
  • Fold in beaten egg whites.
  • Pour batter into two 9 inch cake pans that have been greased and lightly floured.
  • Bake until cake tester comes out clean or about 30 to 35 minutes.
  • ICING:
  • Whip cream until stiff.
  • Beat in sugar and champagne.
  • Spread smoothly over top and side of cake.
