Ingredients
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda

Directions
  1. Cream shortening and sugar.
  2. Add eggs and beat well.
  3. Add nuts, dates (after dredging in a small amount of the flour) and vanilla. Beat well.
  4. Sift dry ingredients together, add to mixture. Mix well.
  5. Make into long rolls and wrap in wax paper or plastic wrap. Let stand in refrigerator until firm enough to slice.
  6. Slice ¼” thick and bake on cookie sheet at 375° for 10 minutes.

I have dates left over from Christmas... I just found a recipe to use them up in.... this sounds really good... Thanks for the post..
