How to make it

  • Heat oil in medium frying pan. Put in onions and peppers and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Saute until tender.
  • Add garlic and saute for about another minute.
  • Add the raw rice and toss together. Saute for about 4 minutes. The rice gets somewhat opaque looking.
  • Put rice mixture into the rice cooker.
  • Add the liquid to the 4 line; set to cook.
  • You should have around 2 cups of liquid left.
  • Make gravy: In small saucepan, combine the 2 cups of liquid with the 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. Simmer until thickened.
  • Note: I would think you could make on the stove top. Just be careful to keep at low simmer so you don't burn the rice - I would think with the "sugar" content it would be possible.
