How to make it

  • Pour boiling water over oatmeal and let stand for 20 minutes
  • Cream shortening, sugars
  • add eggs
  • sift dry ingredients
  • add alternating with oatmeal mixture
  • place into 9x13 pan
  • bake at 350 for about 50 min.
  • Topping
  • 1/3 c. butter
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • combine in small pan and cook until sugar is dissolved.
  • bring to rolling boil and remove from heat
  • add
  • 1/2 c. coconut
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. nuts (chopped)
  • cool a few minutes
  • pour over cake
  • broil 2-3 minutes until brown
  • remove.
  • Is great ala mode or with cool whip.
  • Enjoy!!!!!
