Zesty Orange Chicken

- Chicken: shopping list
- 2 lbs boneless skinless chicken(cut into 1-1/2" pieces) shopping list
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour shopping list
- 1 egg (beaten) shopping list
- 1/4 tsp. salt shopping list
- 1/4 tsp. pepper shopping list
- oil (for frying) shopping list
- orange Sauce: shopping list
- 1 1/2 cups water shopping list
- 2 Tbsp. orange juice shopping list
- 1/4 cup lemon juice shopping list
- 1/3 cup rice vinegar shopping list
- 2 1/2 Tbsp. soy sauce shopping list
- 1 Tbsp orange zest or 1 tsp. orange flavoring shopping list
- 1 cup packed brown sugar shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. ginger shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. garlic powder shopping list
- 2 Tbsp. green onion (chopped) shopping list
- 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes shopping list
- 3 Tbsp. cornstarch shopping list
- 2 Tbsp. water shopping list
How to make it
- Step 1)
- Combine flour, salt, and pepper. Dip chicken in egg mixture and shake in flour mixture to coat. Deep fry chicken in batches at 375 in wok until completely cooked.
- Step 2)
- Meanwhile, in a large saucepan combine 1 1/2 cups water, lemon juice, orange juice, rice vinegar, and soy sauce. Blend well over medium heat for a few min. Stir in brown sugar, orange zest/ flavor, ginger, garlic, and onion. Bring to boil.
- Step 3)
- Combine 3 Tbsp. of cornstarch with 2 Tbsp. of water and mix thoroughly. Slowly stir cornstarch mixture into sauce until it thickens. Pour sauce over breaded chicken, and if desired add red pepper flakes and garnish with green onions.
- *Note* if you are like me and want it spicy add the red pepper flakes into the sauce when you are adding the garlic. That will intensify it 5x :D
