Spicy Chili Tomato Sauce Recipe
This spicy sauce is quite versatile. Use it with pasta, enchiladas or in chili. This makes 2 1/4 cups of sauce.

Ingredients
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 1/4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 1/2 cups canned crushed tomatoes in puree
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano, crushed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions
  1. In a large skillet cook and stir onion and garlic in hot oil over medium heat until onion is tender.
  2. Stir in next 3 ingredients; and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Slowly add broth.
  4. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly.
  5. Add undrained tomatoes, sugar, oregano and salt.
  6. Simmer gently uncovered for 7 minutes or until desired consistency, stirring occasionally.
