How to make it

  • Crust:
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Cream softened butter & sugar together. Add flour & vanilla. Mix well. Gently press into tart pan. Place tart pan on cookie sheet and brown in over for 10 minutes. Remove from oven & set aside.
  • Filling:
  • In a medium bowl, whisk egg & vanilla, add sugar & soft cream cheese & mix until there are no lumps. Pour into tart pan.
  • Topping:
  • Process or chop toasted almonds. Roll sliced apples in cinnamon & sugar mixture, mix with almonds, top tart (gently) with mixture.
  • Bake 30-35 minutes.

    I've been making a similar version of this for about 12 years. It's my all time favorite apple dessert!
    I used 4 apples though, and only a 1/2 tsp of cinnamon in the topping (1 Tablespoon is way too much and must be a typo!)
    Make sure to chill it for at least 2 hours, but overnight is better.
