Ingredients
  • 1 package firm tofu cut in half the long way
  • 1 egg yolk beaten
  • 2 tbl shiro (white) miso
  • 1 tbl sake or broth
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tbl sugar (optional)
  • 1/8 tsp white pepper
  • 1/2 drops sesame oil
  • Paprika of Chili powder

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Cut tofu block in half the long way
  3. Place both halves on a cookie sheet sprayed with a little cooking oil
  4. Mix egg yolk, sake or broth, sesame oil, miso, and sugar to make a paste
  5. Spread this paste evenly on top of the tofu halves
  6. (Spread on thickly or thinnly according to taste. A thick layer of this mixture is very rich and goes a long way).
  7. Sprinkle with paprika or chili powder for color
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees, watch closely toward the end so that the miso mixture does not burn
  9. Remove when done and serve immediately
  10. Cut into cubes and serve as a snack or with rice or noodles as a meal
  11. Enjoy with a lettuce or raw veggie salad dressed with a little olive oil and a splash of seasoned rice vinegar or lemon
