How to make it

  • In bowl, cream sugar and butter (can be mixed by hand)
  • Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition
  • In another bowl, whisk together dry ingredients
  • Add buttermilk with flour mixture alternately, starting with buttermilk
  • When blended, pour into a greased, floured loaf pan
  • Cook at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in the middle, comes out clean
  • Cool for about 10 minutes in pan
  • Turn out, cool until just warm
  • Spread glaze over entire loaf
  • In bowl, blend until smooth, melted butter, powdered sugar, just enough orange juice to make a glaze. May add freshly grated orange rind
