How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 450 F.
  • In large bowl, whisk together flours, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  • Cut in butter until crumbly.
  • In separate bowl, whisk together egg and sour cream.
  • Add to dry ingredients and mix until mixture forms a shaggy dough.
  • Turn out onto lightly floured surface, and knead to form a smooth dough.
  • Make a circle about 1” thick. Using floured cutter (or glass), cut out biscuits, re-rolling scraps.
  • Transfer to a lined baking sheet. Brush tops with buttermilk.
  • Bake 12 minutes.
  • Transfer to rack and let cool.

    My bet would be a ton of overlap, especially in that area... I'm in love with the coast on the Pacific!

    I like these better than the angel food kind - I'm not a good American :D My mom used to make these because her mom did... they originate from Washington State. I wonder if there's much overlap in food tastes between the US pacific northwest and Canada? Apparently they used to go up to BC a lot and go to the Scottish festivals, with bagpipes and log tossing and such. Maybe they found this kind of food there. Anyway, thank you! Now I get to make these and carry on family tradition!
