How to make it

  • Drain off the excess liquid from the cans of beans. No need to put them in a colander – just tip the cans and let the excess liquid run out.
  • Put all the ingredients into a pot. Simmer over medium-low heat for 30 to 40 minutes until the onions get soft. I served these the next day so they sat in the refrigerator overnight, but they can be eaten right away as well.
