Grilled Angel Food Cake With Warm Plum Sauce
From keni 12 years agoIngredients
- 1 prepared angel food cake, sliced shopping list
- 6-8 plums, halved, pitted and peeled*(you want about 1lb) shopping list
- 8oz lemonade(not concentrate) shopping list
- 1-3T raw sugar(depending on desired sweetness and how sweet the plums are!) shopping list
- 1t vanilla shopping list
- a pinch of fresh ground nutmeg shopping list
- vanilla ice cream for serving, if desired shopping list
How to make it
- In medium sauce pan, combine plums, lemonade, and sugar, letting the sugar dissolve into the liquid, if possible.
- Bring to a boil over medium high heat, then immediately reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes, or until fruit is very soft.
- Remove from heat and add vanilla and nutmeg then mash the fruit with a potato masher until fairly smooth. Taste and add a lil more sugar, now, if needed.
- Return to heat and bring back to a low simmer and simmer a few minutes just to thicken sauce.
- Toss slices of cake on a hot grill(off is okay...maybe even preferred :) for just about 20-30 seconds on each side, just to give a lil color and warm it.
- Serve the cake slices with ice cream and the warm plum sauce.
- *I don't peel the plums... as they cook down, the skins fall away from the fruit, so I just fish 'em out as I go. The skins do lend a fair bit of flavor and they contain more of the pectin, so the sauce will be thicker, but do whatever is easiest for you!
