Ingredients

How to make it

  • The ingredients above are for 2.5 Cups of sauce (~5 Servings). Simply double everything as needed to prepare larger quantities.
  • Heat your Olive Oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the garlic and onion and cook for about 7 minutes, stirring occasionally until your onions are clear.
  • Add the carrot, celery, sea salt, & black pepper. Continue to cook for another 7 minutes, stirring occasionally until the celery is dull.
  • Add the tomato, bay leaf, and any other seasoning you are using (like the Traditional Style listed above). Reduce heat to low, and the sauce simmer uncovered for 60 - 70 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes or so. The sauce is finished when it reaches the consistency you desire (longer for a thicker sauce), but I would suggest 60 minutes as a minimum.

Made this a few times, always great!

    A couple notes:
    1. The brand of crushed tomatoes matter. Some are thicker or runnier, so it can change the final product.
    2. I've been shredding some eggplant into it. Nice flavor.

Lastly, I want to try turning this into a bolognese using Beyond meat. I'll update when I give it a shot.

Very good! The base for this sauce is Giada De Laurentiis' exact recipe for marinara sauce and it is good enough to stand on its own. The addition of basil, oregano, and parsley also tastes good and makes a great marinara sauce. For my full review, see "I Made It II:" Easy To Modify Marinara
