Beer Spice Cake Recipe
This cake was the result of a dare. Someone said they thought putting beer in a cake would act like yeast does in bread. I said it wouldn't. They dared me to try it, so I did. It was the best tasting bet I ever lost!

Ingredients
  • 2 cups light brown sugar
  • 1 cup crisco
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 12 ounce can of beer
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped nut (optional)
  • 2 cups dates, chopped (optional)

Directions
  1. In a mixing bowl, cream together sugar and and oil.
  2. Beat in eggs.
  3. Add flour, salt and baking soda.
  4. Stir in beer.
  5. Add spices, nuts and dates; beat well.
  6. Pour into a greased tube pan.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

This is different....


You don't taste the beer at all, which surprised me A LOT! Hope you'll try it.


Love the story, good bet too. If I got to taste this cake as the loss, I wouldn't be too sad either. YUM.
