Beer Spice Cake

This cake was the result of a dare. Someone said they thought putting beer in a cake would act like yeast does in bread. I said it wouldn't. They dared me to try it, so I did. It was the best tasting bet I ever lost!
Ingredients
- 2 cups light brown sugar shopping list
- 1 cup Crisco shopping list
- 3 cups flour shopping list
- 1 12 ounce can of beer shopping list
- 2 eggs shopping list
- 2 teaspoons baking soda shopping list
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 1 cup chopped nut (optional) shopping list
- 2 cups dates, chopped (optional) shopping list
How to make it
- In a mixing bowl, cream together sugar and and oil.
- Beat in eggs.
- Add flour, salt and baking soda.
- Stir in beer.
- Add spices, nuts and dates; beat well.
- Pour into a greased tube pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
