Gooseberry Chutney Recipe
Yummo. Great chutney recipe here. I obtained this from an estate sale several years ago and it is one of our favorites. Hope you enjoy as much as we do.

Ingredients
  • 3 pounds gooseberries
  • 1/2 pound onions
  • 1 pound sugar
  • 1/2 pint water
  • 1/2 ounce salt
  • 1 tablespoons ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 pint vinegar

Directions
  1. Chop berries roughly.
  2. Chop onions finely and cook with the berries in the water until they are well softened.
  3. Add remaining ingredients and simmer until chutney becomes thick stirring occasionally.
  4. Bottle while hot and cover immediately.

You know growing up in KY there were Gooseberry bushes everywhere, berries always waiting to be enjoyed. I have NEVER run across a single gooseberry here in the Northwest Mountains of NJ. Any suggestions?


I have the same problem. They are hard to find but I have been lucky in that some specialty markets are here have gooseberries occasionally.
