How to make it

  • 1. Skin then slice onions into rings.
  • 2. In soup pan add oil and butter and heat at medium high heat.
  • 3. Add onion sugar and black pepper.
  • 4. Sauté until some of the onions are a caramelized brown. (about 5 to 10 minutes)
  • 5. Add wine scraping the bottom of the pan of the bits.
  • 6. Add beef broth and simmer for at least 1 hour but if you can go longer it is better.
  • 7. Service with your favorite grated cheese or no cheese if you wish.

    Nice recipe. The secrete to a good onion soup is to really caramelize the onions, without burning them. This will also work with veggie stock. Thanks. RJ

    eastcoaster ate it and said...
    This is a very tasty soup, we really liked it.
    I had mine with no cheese and i used Earth Balance in place of the butter.Hubby had the cheese. The cooking onions have a wonderful aroma.
    This was easy and the directions are spot on. Will be making it again. Thank you Nadine for this very tasty soup.
