Southern Fried Chicken

- I whole cut up chicken shopping list
- 1 cup of buttermilk shopping list
- 1 tsp of salt shopping list
- 1 tsp ground black pepper shopping list
- 1/2 tsp onion powder shopping list
- 1 cup all purpose flour shopping list
- 2 inches of vegetable cooking oil shopping list
How to make it
- Wash the chicken and pluck unwanted chicken hair. Season the chicken with salt, pepper and onion powder or you could roll the chicken into the seasonings. (I discard the neck and the inside chicken pieces) If you like you can keep them. In a large bowl, pour the buttermilk in and set the chicken pieces in it and store in fridge for half hour or more. Heat 2 inches of oil into fry pan on medium heat and remove chicken from the fridge. In another bowl pour flour and roll the chicken pieces in it. Shake excess off. When oil is hot enough place chicken in fry pan and cover with lid. Let it brown on one side, 10-15 minutes. Then remove lid to turn chicken over to cook on other side, 10-15 minutes. Drain on paper towels.

I used chicken legs, it's what i had out. For the buttermilk i used Natrel lactose free milk and added 2 tablespoons of lemon juice to sour it. I added some chopped rosemary and basil to the flour only because t i think they go well with chicken and ...more
