Ingredients

How to make it

  • 1. Heat grill to medium heat. Or heat the oven to 375 degrees. Cut four 18 X 12 inch pieces of foil. Divide sausage, cabbage, onions, and potatoes evenly onto each piece of foil.
  • 2. In a 2 cup measuring cup, combine tomato sauce or tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic, chili sauce, and pepper; mix well. Spoon evenly over sausage and vegetables. (I use about ¼ to ½ cup sauce per packet) Wrap each packet securely with double fold seals, allowing room for heat expansion.
  • 3. When ready, you can grill, or bake place packets on grill over medium heat or in the oven at 375. Cook 30 to 40 minutes or until cabbage and potatoes are tender. Open packets carefully to allow hot steam to escape.
  • Notes You can also use turkey keilbasa sausage any sausage you like.
  • This can also be made in a Dutch oven; covered most of the time to keep the moisture in.

Made these for dinner last night (2/17/16). Really good. Family enjoyed it a lot- however, I ended up with four medium sized packets, I likely used more veggies then called for, I eyeballed what I felt my family size needed, but the packets needed a lot longer time, probably due to how many packets and the size of each. After 1 hour my taters were still crunchy. Really tasty recipe- but due to my variation on size, i believe, would cook a lot longer next time. But there WILL be a next time, since family raved!

I believe that this recipe 'packs' a great deal of flavor and reads of an excellent camping fare to boot.
