From elgourmand2 8 years agoIngredients
- • 1 tsp. ground cumin. shopping list
- • 1 tsp. chili powder; hot or mild, your choice. shopping list
- • 1 tsp. paprika. shopping list
- • 1 tsp. garlic powder. shopping list
- • Salt & fresh ground pepper. shopping list
- • 3 lbs. pork or beef baby back ribs. shopping list
- • 1 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce. Junk sauce means junk ribs so choose wisely. shopping list
How to make it
- 1. In a small bowl, combine cumin, chili powder, paprika, garlic powder and salt and pepper Mix well.
- 2. Trim off the membrane sheath from the back of each rack. You can do this by running a small, sharp knife between the membrane and snip or "shimmy" off the membrane as much as possible. Don't skip this step because it keeps the ribs from being chewy.
- 3. Sprinkle or "throw" as much of the rub onto both sides of the ribs as desired. Don’t rub the spices in, because the ribs will turn too dark and spicy.
- 4. Put a few wood chips in water to soak.
- 5. Lay out the ribs on a baking sheet and paint with the BBQ sauce. Refrigerate for six hours and paint again.
- 6. When ready to cook, place aluminum foil on lower rack of the BBQ to capture drippings and prevent flare-ups.
- 7. Preheat grill for medium heat. Add soaked wood chips.
- 8. Brush grate with oil, and lay ribs on top rack of grill.
- 9. Shut grill, and leave undisturbed for 1 hour. Do not lift lid at all during this time!
- 10. After one hour check for doneness, depending on your grill you may need to continue cooking for another 10-15 minutes.
- 11. Brush ribs with barbecue sauce, turn over and grill an additional few minutes until sauce is slightly absorbed and a little brown around the edges.
- 12. Serve ribs as whole rack or cut between bones and pile individual ribs on the platter.
- Some coleslaw and fresh corn on the cob, with a few biscuits and you’re home free.

We absolutely ate these up! This is a fantastic rub, especially for so few spices! Made my own BBQ sauce and posted a few pics. I meant to label each picture but forgot when adding them. I think you can figure it out though :) Thanks Elgourmand!...more
