Easy Country Pork Ribs Recipe

Easy Country Pork Ribs Recipe
A product of 'empty cupboard syndrome'--the day before shopping day. :) Very simple, and the flavors can be adjusted to change the ratio of sweet to savory to suit your taste. Very yummy served with mashed potatoes.

Ingredients
  • 3 or 4 lbs country style pork ribs
  • 1 pkg onion soup mix
  • 2 snack size containers applesauce (or 1 cup)
  • salt, pepper, garlic powder
  • water

Directions
  1. Season pork with salt, pepper and a little garlic, brown it in a skillet.
  2. Transfer pork to a baking pan in which it will fit in one layer (so that you don't have to add too much water).
  3. Sprinkle soup mix over pork, pour applesauce over this.
  4. Add water to about half way up the pork.
  5. Cover tightly with foil (or lid if the pan has one).
  6. Put in 350d oven.
  7. After about 1 hour, turn pork over, re-cover.
  8. Cook for another hour or so, or until pork is fork-tender.
  9. If you'd like, the sauce makes a very nice gravy. Just add a little salt and pepper if it needs it and thicken.
  10. If you prefer more complex flavors, you could add any sort of herbs or spices you think would go well. Maybe a bit of thyme and garlic?

This sounds really good! Think I'll try it in my crockpot this Sunday!

Apple sauce and onion soup, eh? Sounds Veeeery interesting. The part about gravy settled it. I can see a huge pile of mashed potatoes with a cavern shaped in the center, now pour in a quart of gravy. mmmmm Oh ya ... there's meat, too.
