How to make it

  • Place the lentils,curry powder,salt,turmeric and water in a large saucepan.
  • Bring to the boil,then reduce heat to a fast simmer for 30-40 minutes,or until the lentils are tender and the moisture reduced.
  • Heat the oil in a large frying pan and stir-fry onions until tender.
  • Add tomatoes and cook for a further 2 minutes.
  • Add the lentils and cook for a further 3-4 minutes,until the daal is heated through.
  • Serve over fried/boiled rice,or with chappati.
