How to make it

  • Combine flour, salt, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon and cloves.
  • In another bowl mix together molasses, milk, egg, and oil.
  • Stir into dry ingredients, thinning with a bit more milk if needed.
  • Pour into hot waffle iron and bake until golden brown.
  • I like to serve these with cinnamon whipped cream and maple syrup.

Very good! These would be great for a brunch or dessert served with a chai latte. I thought there was a mistake with the 1 cup of molasses, but tried it anyway - and was so glad - a very nice rich flavor. Since the batter makes quite a few I took half the batter and added 1 t baking soda plus 1 T lemon juice stirred it in and tried that - it made them lighter textured. This would make great silver dollar pancakes with pecans too.
    Thanks for a great recipe!
