Oliebollen Dutch Donuts

- 1 cake of compressed yeast (.6 oz) shopping list
- 1 c warm milk shopping list
- 2 1/4 c flour shopping list
- 2 tsp salt shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 3/4 c raisins or dried currants shopping list
- 1 Granny Smith apple finely choppd shopping list
- 1 quart vegetable oil for frying shopping list
- 1-2 c icing sugar for rolling shopping list
How to make it
- Break up the yeast and stir into warm milk. Let stand for 5-10 minutes to dissolve.
- Sift flour and salt into a large mixing bowl.
- Stir the yeast mixture and the egg into the flour and stir to mix into a smooth batter.
- Stir in the raisins or currants and apple.
- Cover bowl and let rise in a warm, draft-free area until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Heat oil in deep pan to 375 degrees.
- Use 2 spoons to shape dough into balls and drop them carefully into the hot oil.
- Fry the balls until golden brown, about 8-10 minutes.
- Drain the oliebollen on paper towels then roll in icing sugar.
- Arrange decoratively on serving platter then dust more icing sugar over top. Serve warm. Yum!
