How to make it

  • Pat onions dry.
  • In large saucepan, heat oil and butter.
  • Gently brown onions in oil mixture. (This will have to be done in batches.)
  • Set onions aside.
  • Add remaining ingredients to saucepan.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and simmer until thickened and syrupy.
  • Return onions to saucepan, toss to coat and heat through.
