How to make it

  • LIGHTLY beat the eggs, add and beat in flour, then add and mix in water.
  • ADD rest of ingredients and mix well.
  • HEAT 1/2 olive oil in non stick skillet over medium heat.
  • Add ingredients and reduce heat to low.
  • Cook until omlette begins to firm, 2 - 3 mintues.
  • Add rest of oil, flip and cook for an additional 2 - 3 minutes.
  • Omlette should be lightly browned on both sides.
  • SERVE alone, or with pita bread and other 'mezze' plates.

    From what I can gather, Bhar Helou (aka bahar halu) is just the Arabic name for Allspice (see here for more details: http://www.uni-graz.at/~katzer/engl/Pime_dio.html). Its literal translation is "sweet pepper" (halu comes from the same root as "halwa"/"halva" & translates as "sweet"). Allspice is also called something similar to "sweet pepper" in several other languages.

    This looks wonderful! It's really the mint that intrigues me. That, and the deliciously tempting photo! What does Bhar Helou taste like? In Googling it, all I can find is that it is a spice made from sweet peppers. Is that what you use in making this dish, or do you use the allspice?
