How to make it

  • In large pot bring bouillon cubes and 10 cups of water to a boil.
  • Add corn, potatoes, carrots, onion, Cajun seasoning, salt and pepper.
  • Cover and allow to simmer for 25 min.
  • Add kielbasa and cabbage.
  • Cover and simmer another 10 min. (If water level is low, add a little more)
  • Add shrimp, cover and simmer another 5 min.
  • *Lemons and/or limes are a good garnish
  • *For a low-carb twist, omit potatoes and add broccoli or cauliflower.
  • *Mix up the meats as well, omit shrimp or turkey and add ham or cooked chicken or both!

    It's funny you say 'economical'. She told me that back in the day, when they had money trouble, around the 20th of every month my dad would come home and tell her there's no more money til the 1st of the month and she would have to 'just figure out' what to cook for all 6 of us. That's where alot of her recipes come from!
