APPLE TRIFLE

- 1/2 cup skim milk shopping list
- 1 1/2 tsp cornstarch shopping list
- 4 1/2 tsp dark brown sugar shopping list
- 1 egg white shopping list
- 1/2 tsp canola oil shopping list
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract shopping list
- 1/2 tsp rum extract, divided shopping list
- 1/4 cup unsweetened apple cider, divided shopping list
- 2 TBSP raisins shopping list
- 1/2 tsp ground cinammon shopping list
- 1 cup peeled and chopped apples shopping list
- 1 cup 1/2-inch angel food or chiffon cake cubes, divided shopping list
How to make it
- TO PREPARE CUSTARD: Combine milk and cornstarch in saucepan; stir until cornstarch is completely dissolved. Add brown sugar, egg white and oil; mix well. Slowly bring to a boil over medium-low heat until thickened, stirring constantly with a whisk or a wooden spoon. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla and rum extract. Cool completely.
- Combine 1/8 cup apple cider, raisins and cinammon in sacepan; bring to a boil over medium-low heAdd chopped apples and cook until apple is tender and all liquid has been absorbed, stirring frequently. Remove from heat; set aside to cool.
- TO ASSEMBLE: Place some cake cubes in a trifle bowl. Combine remaining cider and rum extract in a bowl. Mix well. Spoon mixture over cake cubes. Spoon some custard over cake and top with some cooked apple mixture. Repeat layers. Serve immediately.
