This recipe is compliments of Paula Deen. Not only does it look good but it tastes great too! The praline topping makes the top crunchy and sweet while the inside is puffy and moist and the bottom sits in its own buttery syrup.

Ingredients
  • 1 loaf french bread
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 cups half and half
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg (freshly grated)
  • dash salt
  • Praline Topping:
  • 2 sticks butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)
  • 2 Tbsp. light corn syrup
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • Blend together well and spread over top of bread (like frosting).
  • Bake casserole for 45-60 minutes at 350 degrees until puffed and lightly golden.

Directions
  1. Slice bread into 1-inch slices.
  2. Arrange slices in generously buttered 9 x 13 in casserole, in 2 rows, overlapping slices.
  3. Beat together the rest of the ingredients and pour over bread, making sure all bread is covered evenly, spooning in between the slices.
  4. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.
