Ingredients

1 prepared chocolate cake mix, made according to the manufacturer's instructions, cooled and cut into two inch cubes shopping list
2 containers of Cool Whip, thawed OR 4 cups fresh whipped heavy cream shopping list
2 cans of cherry pie filling shopping list
1 chocolate bar, shaved shopping list

How to make it

Layer in the following order:
Cake
Cherry Filling
Whipped Cream or Cool Whip
The last layer should be whipped cream /Cool Whip.
Sprinkle the chocolate shavings over the final layer of cream and serve.

that is a good and relatively easy variation on the trifle i make - will keep it in mind when i need a great looking desert that does not take ages to make (i can buy the chocolate bisquit fresh from the baker to save time). thank you so much for sharing this.
one thing is missing, though: black forest cake does have liquor in it - and as i like to cook with it (although drink very little) i would like to suggest to sprinkle the cake (if you are making this desert for adults)with 'kirschwasser' if you can get it. that is a clear liquor (like vodka) but made of and smelling of cherries. if you cannot get it, a bit of cherry liqueur will suffice, too. it increases the cherry aroma.
