Firehouse Chili Recipe

Ingredients

1 lb. ground beef (I use extra lean so that I don't have to drain fat)

1 large yellow onion, diced

1 large green bell pepper, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 (16 oz.) can whole tomatoes, roughly chopped

1 (16 oz.) can tomato sauce

1 1/2 Tbs. chili powder

1/4 tsp. paprika

1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper

1 bay leaf

1 can dark red kidney beans, drained

1 can pinto beans with jalapenos, drained

salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Heat a large pot over medium-high heat.

Brown beef, onion, and bell pepper until meat is cooked and veggies are tender.

Add garlic and cook for 1 min. more.

Add all other ingredients, stir well, and bring to a boil.

Cover and simmer over a lower heat for 1 1/2 hours.

I like to serve this with a thick, sweet corn bread.
