How to make it

  • Scald milk and lard in quart dish.
  • Fill dish with cold water.
  • Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water.
  • Mix all together and let rise overnight.
  • Cut down and let rise again.
  • Cut down again and shape into loaves.
  • Let rise in pans until double its size.
  • After a batch of bread has risen have deep fat as for doughnuts ready.
  • with a fork lift a bit of dough lightly and cut off quickly with a knife and drop dough into fat.
  • Cook until brown.
  • Drain on brown paper and serve hot.
