White Mountain Cake

This came from my Mom's Kansas Womens' Cookbook....maybe it was named after our White Mountains here in NH....I don't know. I always thought it smelled like doughnut batter when I made it as a child.
Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar shopping list
- 1/3 c shortening shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 1/2 C raisins (rehydrated and drained) shopping list
- ¾ C milk shopping list
- 1/8 tsp salt shopping list
- 1 ¾ C flour shopping list
- 2 tsp baking powder shopping list
- ½ tsp nutmeg shopping list
- 1 tsp lemon juice or extract shopping list
How to make it
- Cream together thoroughly sugar, shortening and egg
- Add remaining ingredients all at one time
- Beat thoroughly, bake in a prepared loaf pan in a slow oven...325 degrees
- Best the second day like pound cake (if you can wait that long)
