Daffodil Cake Recipe
Another recipe from Mom's Kansas Women's Group Cookbook, circa 1935. I've made this a ton of times, it's delicious!

Ingredients
  • If you have no "cake" flour the best substitute for 1 cup cake flour is 7/8 cup all-purpose flour + 2 tablespoons cornstarch.
  • White Part
  • 6 egg whites ½ C cake flour
  • ½ tsp salt ½ tsp vanilla
  • ½ tsp cream of tarter ½ tsp almond
  • ¾ C sugar
  • Yellow Part
  • 6 egg yolks 1 C cake flour
  • ¾ C sugar ½ tsp orange extract
  • ¼ C hot water ½ tsp lemon
  • 1 tsp baking powder ½ tsp orange zest

Directions
  1. Beat yolks until very thick, add sugar and eggs and beat very well
  2. Add hot water, then dry ingredients and lastly flavorings and zest
  3. Put in 2 round baking pans, marble cake style
  4. Bake at 350 for 35 – 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean
  5. Cool completely
  6. Frost with your flavor choice
