How to make it

  • Core and slice the apples in thin slices (peeling is optional)
  • Mix together the honey, cornstarch, spices and sugar
  • Pour the mixture over the apples and mix by hand
  • Roll out the pie crusts on a floured surface making sure the crust is thin and save the trimmings
  • Pour the apple mixture into the pie shell
  • Top the apples with the butter in various places
  • Set the second pie shell (rolled to thin) on top of pie and reserve the trimmings
  • Crimp edges
  • Use the pie crust trimmings to cut leaf patterns
  • Place the leaves in the center of the pie (about 5)
  • Twist some of the leaves, or lift some for a 3D look
  • Vent the pie with 6 small cuts or use a pie vent
  • brush the pie with the egg mixture
  • Sprinkle with the natural sugar (I use a large crystal sugar)
  • Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown (about 1 hour)
  • If you need to cover the pie edges, do so after the pie cooks for about 20 or 30 minutes..
