My Apple Pie Recipe
A beautiful addition to the holiday table! Great with homemade ice cream or home made whipped cream.

Ingredients
  • 6 or 7 good sized granny smith apples
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1//4 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 tblsp butter
  • 3tblsp cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 3 tblsp sugar
  • enough natural brown sugar to sprinkle on top of pie
  • 2 rolled pie crusts
  • 1 egg whisked with 2 tbsp of water

Directions
  1. Core and slice the apples in thin slices (peeling is optional)
  2. Mix together the honey, cornstarch, spices and sugar
  3. Pour the mixture over the apples and mix by hand
  4. Roll out the pie crusts on a floured surface making sure the crust is thin and save the trimmings
  5. Pour the apple mixture into the pie shell
  6. Top the apples with the butter in various places
  7. Set the second pie shell (rolled to thin) on top of pie and reserve the trimmings
  8. Crimp edges
  9. Use the pie crust trimmings to cut leaf patterns
  10. Place the leaves in the center of the pie (about 5)
  11. Twist some of the leaves, or lift some for a 3D look
  12. Vent the pie with 6 small cuts or use a pie vent
  13. brush the pie with the egg mixture
  14. Sprinkle with the natural sugar (I use a large crystal sugar)
  15. Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown (about 1 hour)
  16. If you need to cover the pie edges, do so after the pie cooks for about 20 or 30 minutes..
