My Apple Pie

- 6 or 7 good sized granny smith apples shopping list
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg shopping list
- 1/4 tsp cloves shopping list
- 1//4 tsp cinnamon shopping list
- 3 tblsp butter shopping list
- 3tblsp cornstarch shopping list
- 1/3 cup honey shopping list
- 3 tblsp sugar shopping list
- enough natural brown sugar to sprinkle on top of pie shopping list
- 2 rolled pie crusts shopping list
- 1 egg whisked with 2 tbsp of water shopping list
How to make it
- Core and slice the apples in thin slices (peeling is optional)
- Mix together the honey, cornstarch, spices and sugar
- Pour the mixture over the apples and mix by hand
- Roll out the pie crusts on a floured surface making sure the crust is thin and save the trimmings
- Pour the apple mixture into the pie shell
- Top the apples with the butter in various places
- Set the second pie shell (rolled to thin) on top of pie and reserve the trimmings
- Crimp edges
- Use the pie crust trimmings to cut leaf patterns
- Place the leaves in the center of the pie (about 5)
- Twist some of the leaves, or lift some for a 3D look
- Vent the pie with 6 small cuts or use a pie vent
- brush the pie with the egg mixture
- Sprinkle with the natural sugar (I use a large crystal sugar)
- Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown (about 1 hour)
- If you need to cover the pie edges, do so after the pie cooks for about 20 or 30 minutes..
