Ingredients
  • 9 large egg whites
  • 1 1/2 t cream of tartar
  • Sifted confectioner’s sugar

Directions
  1. Start mixing the egg whites until slightly foaming.
  2. Add cream of tartar. Mix until well blended, but not foaming too much.
  3. Add sifted confectioner’s sugar until the consistency of thick Elmer’s glue.
  4. Separate if coloring. Use immediately or cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate.
  5. Upon cooling icing will thin. Add confectioner’s sugar to thicken for piping.
  6. This icing should fold over itself in thin ribbons without immediately dissolving back into the icing in the bowl.

Nice and simple. we should have a group called that, something like "5 ingrediets" recipes only, lol, or keep it simple and homemade!

This is a nice royal icing recipe. If you beat royal icing for 7 minutes, it gives it a shine too :).

Some people are concerned about using raw eggs. If so use the equivalent of Meringue Powder. I use pasturized eggs. HTH
