Ingredients

How to make it

  • Place the cheese strings in the freezer at least 1 hour before you plan to make these. These will lessen the oozing of the cheese. Preheat oven to 400ºF.
  • Place the flour, egg whites and crumbs in 3 separate dishes. Season the flour with salt and pepper. Cut the cheese strings in 1/2 widthwise. Dip one cheese stick at a time into the flour to coat, then into the egg whites and then the crumbs. Dip it into the egg again and then the crumbs again, squeezing to help them adhere. It'll be messy, but try to cover the cheese completely. Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment or sprayed with cooking spray. Repeat with all of the cheese.
  • Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, until golden. Serve immediately with warmed marinara sauce.

I prepped these last night, but switched up the method slightly.
I also used whole eggs, as I had no use for the yolks and didn't feel like wasting them.
    This was my method:
    - Coated the cheese in flour
    - Dipped into the egg (use a fork to drain excess and save your fingers from turning to blobs)
    - Dropped into bread crumbs and packed them on with a spoon

I repeated this entire process 3 times to ensure a thick, crispy breading and in hopes of the cheese oozing less. This method will take WAY longer than 15 minutes, but I didn't have any trouble with the breading not sticking.

They have been in the freezer overnight, I'll let you know how they turn out!

I really struggled with getting the bread crumbs to "stick" ~ any ideas as to what I may have done wrong? The few that did though were EXCELLENT!

Way more difficult to make than you think and they are definitely not restaurant quality.
