How to make it

  • Add flour mixture into creamed ingredients alternately with 1 C buttermilk. Beat vigorously with mixer. Then add 1 tsp soda in 1 Tb vinegar. Do not beat in with beater. Just stir in with spoon, but mix well. Bake 30 min. at 350o in 2 8” or 9” greased and floured pans.
  • Frosting for Red Cake:
  • Cook over med-low heat until thick:
  • 1 C milk
  • ¼ C flour
  • pinch salt
  • Let cool.
  • Beat until very fluffy:
  • 1 C sugar
  • 1 C butter (room temp.)
  • Add cooled flour mixture and beat until fluffy. Split each cake layer and put frosting between and on top.
