Apple Butter In The Crock Pot Recipe
APPLE BUTTER IN THE CROCK POT This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Pilchard Estate in Cleburne, Texas in 1982.

Ingredients
  • 12 medium Granny Smith or other cooking apples peeled and cut into fourths
  • 1-1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoons ground cloves

Directions
  1. Mix all ingredients in crock pot.
  2. Cover and cook on low for 10 hours.
  3. Mash apples with potato masher or large fork.
  4. Cook uncovered on low for 2 hours stirring occasionally until mixture is very thick.
  5. Cool 2 hours.
  6. Spoon apple butter into container.
  7. Cover and store in refrigerator up to 3 weeks.

Sounds easy. I love apple butter. I'm not sure exactly how my grandmother makes it, but I know she uses the same ingredients for pear butter too.
