Chocolate Trumpet Bars Recipe

Ingredients

3 cups quick oats

2-1/2 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1-1/4 teaspoons salt, divided

2 sticks unsalted butter, softened

2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed

2 eggs

4 teaspoons vanilla, divided

1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk

1-1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

2 tablespoons butter

1/2 cup chopped nuts (I use pecans)

Directions

In large bowl, combine oats, flour, soda, and 1 teaspoon salt

In mixer bowl, beat the 2 sticks butter, adding brown sugar, beat until fluffy

Add eggs, 2 teaspoons vanilla to butter mixture, beating well

Add dry ingredients, mixing on low speed, until smooth, and well combined

In saucepan, heat condensed milk, chocolate chips, 2 tablespoons butter, 1/4 teaspoon salt over low heat until smooth

Remove from heat, stir in nuts, 2 teaspoons vanilla

Pat 2/3 of oat mixture into bottom of ungreased 15" X 10" baking dish or pan

Spread warm chocolate mixture over dough

Dot with remaining oat mixture, pressing gently

Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes

Cool on wire rack

This recipe makes 96 bars
