this is a bread that I use to make a long time ago.. I hope you find it as good as I remember.. this recipe is from an old Better Homes & Gardens Bread Cook Book

Ingredients
  • 6 TBSP. butter
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teasp. grated lemon peel
  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 2 TBSP. milk
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 teasp. baking powder
  • 1/2 teasp. baking soda
  • 1/2 teasp. salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 cup chopped maraschino cherries

Directions
  1. cream butter and sugar until fluffy. add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. add grated lemon peel
  2. combine the applesauce and milk
  3. mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt
  4. add flour mixture alternately with the applesauce mixture to the creamed mixture. don't over mix
  5. stir in the walnuts and the cherries
  6. pour into a greased 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch loaf pan.
  7. bake at 350'F for approx 55 minutes..or until done
  8. remove from pan and cool on a rack.

Mmmmmmm. this recipe looks delicious. I'll have to leave out the walnuts but my guess is, it's just as good ;-) Thanks for sharing your recipe.


Love baking with applesauce....got to try this out!
