Ingredients

How to make it

  • Line a 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan with foil. Butter the foil with one tablespoon of butter. Sprinkle with pecans and chips, set aside.
  • In a heavy saucepan, over medium heat, melt remaining 1 cup butter. Add brown sugar, corn syrup and water.
  • Cook and stir until mixture comes to a boil. Stir in milk.
  • Cook, stirring constantly, until a candy thermometer reads 248 (firm ball stage).
  • Remove from heat and mix in vanilla.
  • Pour into prepared pan, do not scrape saucepan.
  • Cool completely.
  • Turn out onto a cutting board and peel off the foil. Cut into approximately 1 inch squares. Yields about 2-1/2 pounds. Store in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator.

These will have to be heavily guarded before the guest arrive or there will not be any left for them to enjoy.
